Mike Dillon serves as Chief Operating Officer of Richard Childress Racing, a position for the company that focuses heavily on competition administrative functions. Dilon provides forward thinking and direction in all areas of performance and operations, with an emphasis on recruiting and retaining top talent in the industry.During his long career at RCR, Dillon has been involved in nearly every area of both the business and competition sides of the organization, taking a hands-on approach to leadership. He has served in key roles such as executive vice president, vice president of competition, director of team operations, general manager of competition, driver, spotter and test driver. He helped launch RCR’s successful NASCAR Xfinity Series program in the early 2000s and has been instrumental in RCR’s driver development program over the years.Notably, Dillon has served as project manager for a number of large-scale construction and renovation projects within the Childress family of companies, including the construction of RCR’s current NASCAR Cup Series race shop, museum and engine shop.
Prior to joining the competition and business teams at RCR, Dillon was an accomplished racer in his own right, posting three top-five and 15 top-10 finishes in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He notably substituted for Dale Earnhardt in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway in 1997, and for Mike Skinner at Auto Club Speedway in 1996. He is the 1994 Late Model track champion at Tri-City Speedway in Caldwell County, N.C., and an accomplished motor cross racer.
Dillon’s most important role is as a husband, father, grandfather and Christian. His sons, Austin and Ty Dillon, both currently compete in NASCAR’s premiere series, the NASCAR Cup Series, and both lean on their father for advice on and off the racetrack. In his spare time, Dillon is an avid conservationist, hunter and fisherman, and can also be found playing pickleball with his wife, Tina, or playing with his grandchildren, Oakley, Kapton, Ace and Blaize.
