Sam Watkins
Special guest
Sam is a former missionary of over 25 years in four African countries and Australia. He played professional soccer in Australia. He grew up in Liberia, West Africa. Went to Piedmont Bible College and continued his aviation training at Missionary Aviation Institute. He spent several years in Sierra Leone running a diamond mine.
Sam is now focusing on Benjy Center Ministries, Inc., a 501 c3 a non-profit organization based in Ghana and Liberia West Africa. Sam has personally rescued over a hundred abandoned children and is currently responsible for the placement and care of 87 children in foster homes and/or vocational training and other schooling.
In recent years Benjy Center Ministries has joined with Faith Haven Maternity Center, a birthing center operated by Dr. Elizabeth Saye, a licensed MD in Liberia in Obstetrics and Women’s Health for underprivileged mothers. (Sam and Dr. Elizabeth has been approached by two more Liberian doctors who want work with them in their respective medical clinics also.)
Interestingly, Sam's ministry is named after his son who died in a car accident at only 8 years of age, and Dr. Elizabeth's ministry was inspired after her daughter died at a young age. Sam saves unwanted children while Dr. Elizabeth delivers babies for mothers who otherwise would either abort them or give birth in huts or on the street as they do not have funds for medical care.
