Dave Compton

Special guest

David was born in 1958, and raised in Reidsville, N.C. to John & Lelia W. Compton. He was the middle child, with two older sisters and two younger brothers. Our Parents owned their own business “Compton’s Grocery” and later “Compton’s TV”. Davids working life was part of the family business where he learned a good work ethic and customer service skills.

David was educated in the Reidsville City schools graduating High School in 1977 with twelve years of perfect attendance. His love for broadcasting goes all the way back to his childhood
after touring a couple of local radio stations. His own radio was a friend to him, and he dreamed of being a part of this medium. David was also in the boy scouts, troop 789 in Reidsville. One particular
night, they did not have a regular scout meeting at the Scout hut, so they made a field trip to the Grady Wilson (Billy Graham Associate) Crusade in our hometown where David heard the Gospel and talked with a counselor who shared with him and prayed with him to be saved.

In 1975, David’s home church being involved with local radio ministry, David use to go to WWMO-FM radio with my Pastor (The late Rev Harold Townsend) who ran the equipment in the control room. Eventually he trained David on how to run the control board and what he needed to
know about being on the air, playing music, reading news, etc. Mr. Townsend was instrumental in David going to Work at WWMO & WREV.

In 1978, David joined the staff of WPET Christian Radio in Greensboro serving as Air personality, Operations Manager, and Music Director. Since that time, the station has gone through several ownership changes including Entercom who bought CBS Radio while I was there as Program Manager and Morning air personality. Today, WPET is owned by The Truth Network where David still serves on the air and serves as Account Executive along with public affairs. David also hosts “Compton's Classics and Songs from the Attic” on our Cross Network.

David has received many awards including two Golden Mic awards from Singing News, including Favorite DJ (nationally) in 1990. WPET has also been honored with a Congressional National Award, and of course, honored by N.C. Gov. Pat McCrory in 2014 as he appeared with David on his morning program on WPET's 60th Anniversary. David has been on an amazing journey, and he is now in his 50th year in broadcasting service.
